Campaign Photography is used to either advertise sales, products and companies or to show a particular meaning about drugs, self harm etc. In our photography we are basing ours on giving awareness about certain issues. This will be a good topic to focus on and I am looking forward to doing this.
The worst
This is an amazing image. It has a perfect exposure, a depth of field of about f/16 and overall great settings. However, I cant see the meaning as clear as would like to. The boy wearing white on top of the grey background is great because it personifies the boys innocence. But I still find this as very confusing because it could be saying someone has died from smoking or something completely different. The photographer has shown some emotion but it's would be better if the meaning was shown clearer. One way they could improve this image is by adding a slogan. By adding something simple like "smoking kills" or "think of your kids" it would have a better impact on the target audience. This would provide an extra bit of information that would push the effectiveness and it could actually make a difference in someones life. Its a great image but simple tweaks could really make a difference.
My favorite
I really like this image because it shows a clear meaning. The noticeable representation of the fetus created in smoke has a large impact on the viewers because it shows that when a pregnant person smokes, it effects the baby too. This image shows a slogan "when you smoke, your baby smokes" this is good because it really pushes the meaning and makes the target audience think about what they're giving to there unborn baby. Personally, if I saw this advertisement and I was a pregnant smoker it would make me think because I would want to harm my baby. I would look straight at the small print and call the number to seek help. This campaign is very effective and could change lives if shown to the right people.
What is Anti-Bullying?
Anti-Bullying is the thing against bullying. It raises awareness of the consequences and harm that bullying causes. It also helps premote kindness and helping others. There is a week called 'Anti- Bullying week' that takes place during November in the UK. During this week we complete many activitys to share positive bahaviour within our comunnity.
The worst
Personally, I dont like this image. It has potential but it could be improved. I dont like that its so colourful and happy. Its saying stand up to bullying but it doesnt seem to take bullying seriously. If this image was better and the colours were changed it would be better. Also, instead of this edited image I would use an image of an actual person. This would make the image more relatable and will help push it to its highest potential.
The best
I like this image. It portrays the meaning effectively. The girl having no mouth looks very effective and shows lots of meaning. It shows that her voice has been stolen and instead she is consumed with silence. Also, it says "no child left behind." This also makes it extra meaningful because its giving a quick, catchy slogan that will really impact the viewer. Another positive it the background. The dark background is really effective because it shows that she is alone and shows how dark the silence must be for her. Overall, I believe this image has amazing potential because of the image and information given. It could really help to impact someone.
My First shoot
In this shoot I want to take photos of my friend to capture the silence that bullying brings. I will give her instructions to look away but place her hand in front of her, in clear view of the camera so that its like they are saying stop. I am going to ask her if I can write "stop" on her so that it shows the silence a bullied person may feel. This will make it more effective. I also plan to use a plain background so show how empty a persons life can feel or how dark it will feel, due to the effect of bulling. Overall, this shoot will be simple but display a clear message that will have a noticeable effect on the target audience.
I might lower my ISO so that the image looks dark and reflects on the dark feeling of a bullied persons life. Or I might higher it to show how white and empty a persons life I could be due to the effects. I will use a deep depth of field so that the whole image is in focus. This will help portray the meaning of the shoot as it shows that bullying has a large effect. It will also help me show the blank expression on my friends face as he bullying has stole her voice. I might try different edits on the image to create different effects, for example changing the filter but this shoot might be effective enough to not need an edit.

These were my first images. I took these to test the different elements of the camera. After I took these I changed the exposure, ISO, f stop and I changed my focus to automatic. This helped me get my best images that came out clear and focused unlike these images and helped me expand the skills used. These small changes will really impact the outcome of the shoot.
The best
This is my favourite image because the background is very clear. This image shows lots of meaning and looks very effective. I used the mic as a prop to make it look like she wants to shout out for help but she cant. As I've mentioned above, I really like the way that I've changed the settings. The image has a bright background which makes the main part of the picture stand out and the way my friend put her hand over her face really brings out the full meaning.
If I changed this I would edit a slogan onto the image. This would make the image more effective and make it look more professional.

Alcohol and substance abuse
Substance abuse, also known as drug abuse, is a patterned use of a drug in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods which are harmful to themselves or others, and is a form of substance-related disorder.
The worst
I don't like this picture because I don't feel that it's organised enough. You can tell that the image was staged too much and it takes away from the look of the photo. If it looks more realistic it could have a larger effect on the target audience and it could make them listen to what the meaning is. In this case, it might make them think twice before taking drugs. If the person was positioned better and the light was from another angle it could have a completely new effect and could really impact the audience. I also think that this would be better if the image never had so many pill bottles. Sometimes less is more.
The best
I really like this one because although it isn't showing emotion through a facial expression you can imagine how they feel. The light is shinning in a perfect direction which really emphasizes the pain that they are putting them selves through as it shine off the needle, drawing attention to it. I am going to use this as a plan for my shoot because its very eye catching and I can do a lot with it. Even the way this fist is clenched shows lots of emotion.
The Plan
For this shoot I am going to use a syringe to make it look like my friend is injecting herself with drugs. Personally, I think this shoot will be very good to create, the image will look good bright or dark but I think to give it a depressing edge I will have it slightly under exposed . To know what settings I should use I will take a few images and experiment with the settings multiple times ( white balance, exposure, aperture) . This will give me a rough idea of what makes my shoot look most effective.

The worst images
Although these images aren't terrible I don't think they show my true skills. If I could change these images I would have taken they from a higher angle and I would have used a flash. I like that they are dark but they would have been better if they where a bit brighter. The angle would change the overall feel of the environment and the flash would make my friends arm look whiter, almost as if she's ill. The lighting would also shine of the needle, emphasising the meaning of the photo by drawing attention to the prop. I made my best images brighter after I looked at these and I am happy with my outcome.
My best images
I really like the way these images have turned out, they are slightly under exposed which gives them a dark feeling. The composition really brings out the meaning of the photographs and makes them look really effective. I am really happy with how this shoot turned out, my images look high quality and professional.
The edit
I was really happy with the outcome of my shoot so to try and push myself further I edited this image. I really like the slogan I created on this image "It doesn't just effect you, think about your family too." I feel that the slogan would make people think before they take drugs. I also edited the NHS logo in the bottom right corner because it has a website on it and it looks like a real campaign. The only thing I don't like about this image is that the quality isn't as good as it could be. Also, at first the writing on my image was red but it was too dark so I changed it to white. Next time, I will try to be more careful when editing my images. Although this image was good, I think I could have done better.
Depression
What is Depression?
Depression is a mental condition which presents feelings of inadequacy, dejection, guilt and despondency. Its often accompanied by lack of sleep, lack of energy, lack of belonging and poor appetite.
The worst
This one looks deep and dark but doesn't give a huge certainty. Is it meant to show depression, anxiety, loneliness, a ghost or someone that is lost? If the arm was edited different or the face shown different emotion this would make it so much clearer. I get the meaning however, many other people might not because its unclear and could be shown better. Its a great photo but it could be tailored more towards the target audience.
The best
I really like this image because it shows lots of emotion. The person looks depressed and trapped, this image is very effective. In this image a person is trapped behind a mirror. The photographer uses this to capture the meaning and show that depression can make you feel trapped and like there is no escape. The photographer has made this image look dark by making it black and white. They have also made it so that the only thing inside the mirror that is in focus is the hands by changing the aperture. This image is very powerful and it would take lots of skill.
My shoot
For this shoot I am going to take a picture of Kacy with her head in different positions. To achieve a similar image to the one on the left I will set the shutter speed to 1/15 and I will just take multiple images of her with her head in different positions. Originally, I was going to use a really low shutter speed and just get my friend to shake her head but I had issues with the lighting so I had to change my plan. I will take these images in one of my teachers classes so that the lighting was good and we don't have to change the ISO too much. If the ISO is too low it can make the image look low quality so I tried to keep it around 400-800 so that it looks better. Now I have my final images I will use one of the blurry ones as a base image and add a few of the other not so blurry images over the top and make them a bit opaque. I think this shoot will be very good when it is finished.

The outcome
The edit
For this I planned to edit the pictures over each other as overlays, when I did this I found many problems. The pictures where not centre and they were too dark. I am going to try this again but take the pictures using the monochrome setting to see if this makes the images clearer when overlaid. I also need to make sure there is more natural light when taking the pictures.
Retake
I retook the photos outside so that the background was more interesting. I also set the camera to black and white so that the image came out strong. Personally, I really like how my new pictures came out because they look professional, the lighting in perfect and they will be easy to edit. These are much better than my first images and have improved a lot.
The edit
This is perfect! It came out exactly how I hoped. In my opinion, it looks very powerful and shows lots of meaning. I really like how I managed to capture the emotions and how I portrayed depression. Her facial expressions are emotionless, she looks neither happy or sad. This makes us wonder what she is thinking about to feel like that. The main focus in on the middle of her face, this shows that although she is physically in one place she is mentally being pushed and pulled everywhere. I also like how simple the background is because it makes the main image stand out more. This shoots edit was complex but fun because I had to edit around my friend and then paste it over the main image of her as an overlay.
Child Abuse
What is child abuse?
Child abuse is the sexual molestation, metal abuse and/or physical abuse of a child. Its when a child is intentionally harmed by another person (sometimes even by another child). It can happen over time or it can be a one time event. The extent of the abuse varies in each case. Campaigns like this are very important because it helps share awareness and shows what signs people should look out for.
My least favorite
My favorite
I really like this image because the way the photographer has edited the hands on the child's back looks really effective. When I first saw this image it caught my attention. Without even reading the writing I cold automatically tell that this shoot was about abuse. A dark background was used on this image to make it stand out more. This picture is of a really high standard and I think its amazing and powerful.
The shoot
I took this shoot a few weeks ago. I asked my sister to sit in a hall and explained to her how I wanted her to sit. Because the hall had no windows It was quite dark, this was perfect for my shoot idea. My ISO was set to about 800 and the flash was on. After I was happy with how I thought the settings would make the shoot look I took my first image. I really liked how this image looked so I only made a few slight adjustments then I took 3 more images. After this, I looked at my images and decided that I had enough and instead of taking lots of images I would just edit one of the images I had.
Not so good
Out of all my images, his is my least favourite. This image isn't as powerful as the rest because you cant see much emotion. This was the first image I took before I made the slight adjustments that make the rest so good. It was hard to explain to my sister how I want her to look because she is only 5.

The Best
In my opinion, this image is one of my best out of all my shoots. The way the flash added the shadows makes this even more powerful. This is the image I will be editing because it should be perfect. I'm going to edit a bruise onto her eyebrow that is on the right side of the image because I think that would help give the the shoot a final push.
The edit
The editing process for this shoot was very simple. I used the burr tool to add darkness under her right eye and make it look like a bruise. I also messed around with the settings on the right hand side to add a dark effect and make the image look more adequate.
Although the image is simple with only a little editing to change the lighting and add darker colouring around the eyes, I feel that this is a really powerful image. The composition is perfect showing only her eyes, hugging her knees symbolises that she may be scared or worried.
To develop this further I could add a slogan or a logo to show what the purpose of the campaign is.
