How it all started
Slinkachu (Bristish, b.1979) is a London-based artist who creates small-scale Street Art installations and photographs them. The Little People Project started in 2006, involves the remodeling and painting of miniature model train set characters, which are then placed, photographed, and left on the street. Speaking about his work, Slinkachu says, "The street-based side of my work plays with the notion of surprise and I aim to encourage city-dwellers to be more aware of their surroundings. The scenes I set up, more evident through the photography and the titles I give these scenes aim to reflect the loneliness and melancholy of living in a big city, almost being lost and overwhelmed. But underneath this, there is always some humor. I want people to be able to empathize with the tiny people in my works."
Slinkachu has created Street Art installations in cities all over the world, including Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Manchester. He recently held an exhibition at London’s Andipa Gallery, entitled Whatever Happened to the Men of Tomorrow?. The show featured miniature superheroes struggling with the pain of old age. Slinkachu currently lives and works in London, England.

There images are my favourite because they are very detailed and turn normal things into something else. Personally, I think that there images show things in a different, strange way. I also like how on he first image its turned a shoe into some type of animal and made it cute but intimidating.
The worst of the best
Isaac Cordal's miniature figures work.
Isaac Cordal is a Spanish Galician artist whose work involves sculpture and photography in the urban environment. He lives in Brussels and Galicia.
Cement Eclipses is a critical definition of our behavior as a social mass. The art work intends to catch the attention on our devalued relation with the nature through a critical look to the collateral effects of our evolution. With the master touch of a stage director, the figures are placed in locations that quickly open doors to other worlds. The scenes zoom in the routine tasks of the contemporary human being.
Isaacs work is very deep and meaning full. His work is dark and captures men in suits. These images are strangely appealing to the eye. Personally, I like his work because its very detailed and depressing.

Personally, I do not like this image. I think it isn't very clear what is happening. This could be improved by using a different angle so its easier to understand.
Lori Nix / Kathleen Gerber
Lori Nix and Kathleen Gerber are Brooklyn-based artists whose dioramas and miniatures are captured in unsettling photographs. Lori Nix, who grew up in a small, rural town in western Kansas, channels an ongoing fascination with the natural disasters that she experienced as a child. In a series of works entitled “The City,” Nix and Gerber depict a future in which man made environments have been emptied of human inhabitants and reclaimed by nature. For each of these surreal, post-human scenes, Nix and Gerber construct an intricate diorama, filled with hand-crafted details, miniature reproductions and subtle humor. Nix then stages the scene with dramatic lighting and captures it in a photograph. In these haunting works, an unidentified disaster has cleared the way for new life, which takes root in the abandoned, crumbling buildings that once housed human activity. We are reminded of the transience of human civilization and the power of nature to reclaim our shopping malls, libraries, museums and other domesticated spaces. Were the events that led to the human exodus set in motion by our failure to care for the planet? Nix and Gerber do not answer this question, instead offering a romantic vision of the aftermath, in which we find hope in colorful sunsets, poetic decay and the return to nature.

Personally, this is the worst because I don't see the thoughts behind this. it doesn't look like its very over grown. I think this image would be better if it was a bit darker.

This is my favourite image because it is very detailed. Personally, I feel like this image is very powerful and shows a very clear representation of what is happening. I like that it looks like an actual place that you can visit because it gives it a more life like feel.
Practice makes perfect
Looking good
This was my favourite image because I feel like it captures a lot of small details. This image also uses rule of thirds and rule of triangles which makes the image more appealing. I also think this is a good image because it is bright and easy to see.
Not so good.

This is a bad image because its all out of focus. This image was also darker than I would have liked. To improve this, I changed the focus, adapted the ISO and changed the angle of my camera. This allowed my work to improve and made it so that my next images were much better.
The plan
For this shoot the idea is to make people think about the unfortunate people that are stuck in the cold. I'm calling this shoot "Smiling at the stars but freezing in the cold". I have bought several props for this shoot like fake snow. I will change the settings depending on the light. I will print of a background. Personally, I think this will be a very successful shoot.
The worst
This is the best image because it shows the photo in a very clear way. I this picture because a lot of it is in focus and matches the background. It also captured the meaning best. Although this shoot was harder then I imagined, it still turned out quite well and I am pleased with the result. To get this image it took lots of working on the ISO, exposure and depth of field but taking the time to fix those things helped me learn more about them.
The shoot
This was a spontaneous shoot. I went to take pictures for a new shoot I had planned but then I checked are resources, I came up with this idea. Although it wasn't planned it was very successful. It allowed me to experiment with the camera settings and see how I prefer them. It also allowed me to see what skills I have gained since starting this course. Shoots like this are very helpful because they allow me to work on my skills and expand my knowledge. I liked this shoot and hope to do a similar one again in the future.

My idea for this photo shoot is very simple. I am going to print of a picture of a jail cell and use it as a background. I will make a small sign that says a life for a life and I will place it next to my figure. My figure will look like a prisoner. The pictures will be taken downstairs in the canteen and my ISO will be kept low because there is a lot of natural light in there. This will also mean I can put my shutter speed high because it wont be affected by the light. Three pictures will be taken further away so you can tell where it is taken. I think that this will be a very successful shoot.

The plan
I am going to use one of my new miniature figures. I will tie a piece of string around its neck and then attach it to one of the trees outside my school. I will change my ISO and shutter speed depending on the weather. I am going to take 3 images one of them will be extremely close up and they other two will get a bit further away. personally, I think this will be a very successful shoot although this shoot could be very difficult because it might move with the wind. I might use a bush instead of a tree because it will be easier to take the pictures.

The plan
I have printed of my pictures that I will use for the background and floor. I will change the settings as I go along but I think I will use ISO 600, a centre focus point and a fast shutter speed. To improve the lighting I will take these images close to a window because it will be a good natural light source. This should be a very successful shoot.

The plan
I am going to print of a few signs and then I am going to make some thing to resemble cancer. I think I will use slime to symbolise the the way it consumes people and can easily take over. Because I am taking my images outside I will have a medium shutter speed in case there is wind and I will have an ISO od about 400. Some of the writing on the signs is in French because I got the inspiration for the shoot from Stromaes song 'Quand cest'. Personally, i feel like this shoot will be able to show a powerful meaning. My ISO will be on about 600 because I am taking my pictures outside but it is quite cloudy.
The outcome
Overall, I think this was a very successful shoot although I did have trouble getting the correct translation. The sign is meant to translate to "Well yes, we know each other well. You wanted to do my stepfather, huh? You even stole my grandfather's lungs. Do you remember?" But when the text is actually translated it says "Eh, well, yes we do not know well. You even wanted to do my stepfather, huh? You started with your gut, and then with my grandfathers lungs. Do you remember?" I adapted the lyrics of "Quand c'est" by stromae to get this text.

These are my favourite images because they are in focus which means you can read the writing quite easily. These images allow you to see the meaning effectively which I like because I understand the true effects of cancer. Personally, I feel that these pictures the meaning is captured really well and that they really show my skills improvement. I could have improved these by making sure all the signs are covered with moss but, this isn't too ,much of an issue. It was very windy on this day too so maybe next time I could wait for the weather to improve. Overall, I am happy with this shoot.
